City of Waco Housing and Community Development invites qualified organizations to submit applications to receive funding from the Community Development Block Grant and Home Investment Partnership Program

Waco, TX -Downtown Waco is set to become quieter as the city moves forward with the implementation of a Railroad Quiet Zone. The project covers 1.5 miles of track through the heart of downtown and is designed to reduce routine train horn blasts, providing a more peaceful environment for residents and visitors.

To maintain safety standards mandated by the Federal Railroad Administration, the City of Waco and Union Pacific Railroad will install medians, fencing, warning lights, gate arms, sidewalks, and signage along the corridor. Construction is scheduled to begin this month and is expected to continue through late 2027.

Once all safety features are installed and inspected, the quiet zone is projected to go into effect in early 2028, offering a safer and more serene downtown experience. More information on the project is available at Waco-Texas.com/QuietZone.
