Texas – A 23-year-old man identified as Pedro AIberto BadiIIo Rivare was arrested after a traffic stop led to the discovery that he was wanted by authorities in Mexico on a r-pe charge, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.
Texas authorities said the arrest occurred on April 24, 2026, at approximately 7:50 a.m., when a DPS trooper conducted a traffic stop on a red Chevrolet pickup truck traveling at a high rate of speed along County Road 300.
During the stop, the trooper detected a strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle, officials said. Based on probable cause, a search of the truck was conducted, which led to the discovery of marijuana and a firearm inside.
Through further investigation at the scene, authorities determined that the driver, identified as the defendant, was in the United States without legal status. Officials also learned that he was wanted by law enforcement authorities in Mexico in connection with a r-pe case.
He was taken into custody without incident and transported to the County Detention Center, where he was booked on charges related to the traffic stop and the ongoing investigation.
DPS officials said the case has been turned over to Homeland Security Investigations for further investigation. Texas authorities noted that no additional details are being released at this time as the case remains active.
Officials have not said whether additional federal charges may be filed. The investigation is ongoing as federal authorities review the circumstances surrounding the case and coordinate with international law enforcement partners.
