Texas – A Texas man, later identified as 39-year-old AIberto VeIasquez, was arrested and charged with manslaughter following the fatal shooting of his wife, 42-year-old Lindsey VeIasquez, inside their home earlier this month, according to multiple reports including CBS Texas, WFAA, and FOX 4.
Texas authorities said officers with the BPD responded around 7:30 p.m. to a residence in the 1000 block of SproIes Drive after receiving a report that someone had been accidentally shot. When officers arrived, they found the victim unconscious with a gunshot wound to the face. She was transported to a local hospital, where she later died.
The County Medical Examiner’s Office later determined her cause of death was a gunshot wound to the head, according to reporting from the FW Star-Telegram. Investigators initially treated the incident as an accidental shooting while gathering evidence and conducting interviews at the scene, FOX4 reported.
The victim was identified as a 42-year-old assistant principal and mother of three. She worked at the local elementary school in the FW Independent School District and was in her second year in the role, according to district information cited by local outlets.
The shooter, who was identified as her husband through property records reviewed by multiple news organizations, was arrested and later charged with manslaughter. He was released on bond following his arrest, according to reporting from the FWST.
Investigators and partnering agencies have not publicly released a detailed account of what occurred immediately before the shooting. However, officials have confirmed that the initial report described the incident as an accidental discharge of a firearm inside the home. That classification changed as the investigation developed and additional evidence was reviewed.
Law enforcement sources said the case involved standard procedures for fatal shooting investigations, including processing the scene, collecting forensic evidence, interviewing witnesses, and reviewing statements provided by those present at the home. Detectives also worked alongside prosecutors to determine whether the evidence supported criminal charges.
Officials have not publicly detailed what the defendant told authorities during questioning, and no formal account of his statements has been released. The investigation remains ongoing as authorities continue to evaluate the circumstances that led to the shooting and whether additional findings could affect the charge.
The School District acknowledged the incident in a statement, noting that both individuals involved were district employees and emphasizing that the situation did not occur on school grounds. The district also stated there was no ongoing threat to students or staff and expressed condolences to those affected.
A GoFundMe created to support the family described the victim as a dedicated educator and mother of three daughters. The fundraiser highlighted her role in the school community and the personal loss felt by those who knew her.
Texas authorities have not announced any further charges at this time. The case remains under investigation as officials continue to review evidence and determine the full sequence of events leading up to the fatal shooting.
