Waco, TEXAS – The Waco Police Department joined multiple law enforcement agencies across McLennan County in hosting this year’s Peace Officer Memorial Service during National Police Week.
According to the department, the ceremony was held in recognition of National Peace Officer Memorial Day, observed annually on May 15, to honor officers who lost their lives in the line of duty.
During the memorial service, the names of fallen officers were read aloud and roses were placed at the memorial in tribute to their service and sacrifice. Officials said the event served as a moment for agencies, families, and community members to come together in remembrance.
The department also thanked residents who attended the ceremony and showed support for law enforcement agencies and the families of fallen officers.
In a statement shared following the service, the department said community support continues to play an important role in honoring officers who made the ultimate sacrifice while serving and protecting others.
The memorial event took place as departments across the country marked National Police Week through ceremonies and tributes recognizing law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty.
