Waco, TX – A rare birth at the Cameron Park Zoo has marked a significant milestone in wildlife conservation after staff announced the arrival of the facility’s first-ever black-footed cat kitten.
According to the City of Waco – Public Information office, the kitten was born to parents Gaia and Finn. The species is considered one of the rarest small wild cats in the world, with fewer than 30 black-footed cats housed in zoos across the United States.
Zoo officials reported that dedicated staff members have been providing around-the-clock care for the newborn. The kitten is currently being hand-reared to ensure its health and survival during the critical early stages of life.
The zoo described the birth as an important achievement for conservation efforts, highlighting the ongoing work to protect and better understand the species. Staff also expressed excitement in sharing the kitten’s development with the public as it continues to grow under close supervision.
