Texas continues flood recovery efforts as Gov. Abbott surveys damage and state officials coordinate rebuilding response

Texas – Texas officials are continuing recovery efforts after severe flooding impacted communities across the state last week, with Gov. Greg Abbott conducting an aerial assessment of damaged areas and receiving updates on ongoing response operations.

Abbott surveyed flood damage by helicopter in the Kerrville area, where he observed impacts to neighborhoods, roadways, bridges, and other critical infrastructure affected by the flooding.

“I want to thank all the first responders, volunteers, and our fellow Texans for the swift and effective response to the floods,” Abbott said. “We are now transitioning into the process of cleanup and rebuilding. The state is working with local officials to expedite debris removal and accelerate the rebuilding process.”

The governor said officials have identified about 490 homes that sustained damage from the flooding. He also encouraged Texans who want to help affected residents to donate to recovery efforts through rebuildtx.org.

Abbott was joined during the aerial assessment by Texas Division of Emergency Management Chief Nim Kidd and Texas Military Department Adjutant General Thomas Suelzer.

Following the helicopter tour, Abbott met with emergency management officials to receive updates on search and rescue operations, debris removal, infrastructure repairs, and recovery plans.

State officials said Texas continues providing resources to impacted communities, including personnel, aircraft, boats, high-water vehicles, and other emergency response equipment to support local agencies and assist residents affected by the flooding.

Abbott also urged residents in impacted areas to continue monitoring weather conditions, avoid flooded roadways, and follow instructions from local and state officials as recovery efforts continue.

The governor was joined at a briefing by Kidd, Suelzer, Kerr County Judge Rob Kelly, emergency management officials, and other state and local leaders involved in response and recovery operations.

The state remains in an elevated response posture as officials work with local communities and federal partners to complete cleanup efforts and begin rebuilding damaged areas.

Residents affected by the flooding can access recovery resources, preparedness information, and assistance through state emergency websites, while travelers can check current road conditions before entering impacted areas.

Officials said Texas will continue supporting affected communities until recovery efforts are complete and residents are able to fully rebuild following the devastating floods.
