Texas – Texas Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller praised Attorney General Ken Paxton after a legal challenge resulted in the Biden administration’s endangered species listing of the dunes sagebrush lizard being overturned.
In a statement, Miller called the outcome “a win for Texas, for common sense, and for every hardworking producer who has been forced to pay the price for Washington’s regulatory overreach.”
According to the commissioner, the decision restores a science-based approach to conservation while protecting Texas producers, rural communities, and the state’s energy economy from what he described as unnecessary federal regulations.
Miller argued that the previous endangered species listing relied on flawed science and failed to recognize existing conservation efforts. He said the rule threatened oil and gas workers, ranchers, and rural communities while increasing costs for agricultural producers and Texas families.
“I commend Attorney General Ken Paxton for standing up to this unlawful rule and ensuring that science, not agenda-driven bureaucrats, guides these decisions,” Miller said.
He added that Texas can protect its natural resources without harming the industries that play a major role in the state’s economy, saying the decision puts the state “back on track” to achieve both goals.
The commissioner said the ruling represents a significant victory for Texas agriculture, energy producers, and rural communities that opposed the federal listing.
