Texas – Sid Miller is renewing his call for action from Greg Abbott, urging the suspension of the state motor fuels tax as gasoline prices continue to rise across Texas.
In a statement issued May 4, 2026, Miller said drivers are facing increased financial pressure at the pump, citing a statewide average of around $3.90 per gallon, with higher prices reported in areas such as the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex and El Paso.
Miller said the rising costs are affecting families, farmers, and ranchers, particularly during critical agricultural seasons when fuel demand remains high.
He called for immediate relief through a temporary suspension of the state fuel tax, arguing that similar actions have been taken in other states to ease consumer costs.
The proposal comes as state officials continue to monitor fuel price trends and broader economic conditions affecting transportation and agriculture sectors.
