Waco, TX – The Waco Fire Department conducted specialized training last week focused on elevator entrapment scenarios, according to the City of Waco – Public Information.
Crews trained at the vacant Indian Spring Middle School, where they participated in both classroom instruction and hands-on exercises using a functioning elevator inside the building.
Officials said the training allowed firefighters to apply real-world rescue techniques in a controlled environment, noting that opportunities to work with an operational elevator in an unoccupied structure are uncommon.
Department leaders added that the exercise reflects ongoing efforts to maintain readiness and ensure personnel are prepared to respond effectively to emergency situations involving elevator entrapments.
