Houston, TX – Houston firefighters contained a large fire at a recycling and scrap metal facility in the 1900 block of Goodyear Drive after crews worked for hours in extreme heat.
The Houston Fire Department said firefighters laid more than 3,500 feet of supply hose to establish a reliable water supply and keep the fire contained.
Crews used nearby hydrants to secure the water needed to battle the fire despite challenging conditions. HFD said firefighters made quick and strategic decisions throughout the response to prevent the fire from spreading.
No injuries or transports were reported.
Air and water quality monitoring remained underway, with HFD reporting no danger to the surrounding area at the time of its update.
As firefighting operations wrapped up, HFD cadets from the Val Jahnke Training Facility joined firefighters at the scene to help collect and roll the more than 3,500 feet of supply hose used during the response.
The department also thanked METRO for providing a cooling bus and transportation for the cadets, as well as Spanky’s Pizza for providing food for firefighters working at the scene.
HFD said the property was being turned back over to the owner after the fire was contained.
