Waco, TX – The Waco Fire Department has deployed personnel to the San Antonio area to assist with emergency response efforts following severe flooding and tornado damage.

In a social media update, the department said its crews, alongside members of the Robinson Fire Department, were deployed earlier in the day after an urgent request for statewide assistance through the Texas Intrastate Fire Mutual Aid System (TIFMAS). The Hewitt Fire Department is also participating in the response.

According to the Waco Fire Department, the deployment was made to support communities affected by widespread flooding and tornado damage in and around the San Antonio area.

TIFMAS coordinates the movement of firefighting personnel, specialized equipment and emergency resources across Texas during large-scale disasters and other incidents that overwhelm local capabilities. The mutual aid system allows departments from across the state to provide assistance when requested.

Severe weather has impacted parts of Central and South Texas in recent days, bringing heavy rainfall, flash flooding and tornadoes that prompted emergency response operations in multiple communities. State and local agencies have been working to assess damage, conduct rescues where needed and restore affected areas.

The Waco Fire Department did not immediately provide details on the length of the deployment or the specific assignments its personnel will undertake, but said crews responded as part of the statewide mutual aid effort.

Officials asked the public to keep the deployed firefighters and all emergency responders in their thoughts as they continue assisting communities impacted by the severe weather.
