Waco, TX – Retired Waco Police K9 Officer Andor has been honored with the Star of Texas Award by Gov. Greg Abbott following an incident in May 2025 in which the police dog was shot and seriously injured.
Andor was recognized alongside his former handler, Sgt. Bucher, during a ceremony honoring Texas peace officers who were killed or seriously injured in the line of duty.
According to the Waco Police Department, Andor was shot while serving in the line of duty in May 2025.
Despite suffering a gunshot wound, the K9 made a full recovery and has since retired from service.
The Star of Texas Award is presented to Texas peace officers who are killed or seriously injured while carrying out their duties.
Andor received the distinguished recognition for his service and courage during the shooting.
The department highlighted Andor’s recovery as part of the recognition and praised the retired K9 for his dedication to protecting the Waco community.
Waco police also thanked Sgt. Bucher for his service alongside Andor and congratulated the retired K9 on receiving the award.
The department described the honor as well deserved and encouraged the community to recognize Andor for his courage, service and dedication.
