Waco, TX – The Waco Police Department announced that a 27-year-old man who had been reported missing in late July was found deceased Thursday afternoon.
According to police, Shane Albright was reported missing on July 25, 2026. Major Crimes detectives were searching in the 3600 block of W. Lake Shore Drive on Aug. 6 when they located Albright and his vehicle about 20 feet off the roadway in a heavily vegetated, wooded area.
Police said the discovery was made shortly after 3:30 p.m.
An autopsy has been ordered as authorities work to determine the cause of Albright’s death. Police said his next of kin had been notified.
The investigation remained ongoing as of the department’s Aug. 7 news release. Authorities did not provide additional details about the circumstances surrounding Albright’s death.
The department also thanked members of the public who provided information after Albright was initially reported missing, saying those tips, along with automated license plate reader technology, played a significant role in helping investigators locate him.
Waco police also credited several agencies and personnel who assisted with the search, including the McLennan County Constable’s Office, the Heart of Texas U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force, Texas Parks and Wildlife game wardens and a Waco Police Department drone operator.
The department expressed its condolences to Albright’s family while investigators continued working to establish what happened.
Authorities have not released the results of the autopsy, and no cause of death had been announced at the time of the release.
