Laredo, TX – A 42-year-old man was arrested in Laredo, Texas, after an attempted theft of beer from a convenience store escalated into a physical confrontation that left a customer with minor injuries, according to the Laredo Police Department and booking information released by the Webb County Sheriff’s Office.
Officers responded at about 11 p.m. on April 14 to a report of an assault at a convenience store located in the 2700 block of North Arkansas Avenue. When officers arrived, they were told a man had attempted to leave the store with two cases of beer without paying.
According to police, a 38-year-old woman witnessed the man heading toward the exit with the unpaid items and confronted him, standing in front of the doorway and asking whether he intended to pay.
Investigators said the man, later identified as Roberto Armando Valverde, then attempted to force his way past the woman using the beer cases, causing her minor injuries during the encounter. He dropped the merchandise and fled the store immediately afterward.
Police later reviewed surveillance footage from the store and identified Valverde as the suspect. He was subsequently located and arrested, and later charged in connection with the incident, according to authorities.
A mugshot released by the Webb County Sheriff’s Office showed Valverde following his arrest on May 20, 2026. Authorities said the case was classified as a robbery-related offense due to the use of force during the attempted theft.
The investigation was handled jointly through local law enforcement efforts, and officials said the case was supported by video evidence and witness statements from the store.
