Waco, TX – The City of Waco marked National Community Development Week by highlighting millions of dollars invested into local housing and public service programs over the past five years.
According to city officials, more than $7.6 million from the Community Development Block Grant and an additional $2.6 million from the Home Investment Partnerships Program were allocated to support community needs.
These funds, provided through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, were used to address priorities identified by residents.
Since 2020, the city has completed repairs on 70 homes and assisted 22 first-time homebuyers with down payment support. Officials also reported that 130 households received rental assistance, while more than 12,000 individuals benefited from various public service programs.
Many of these services were delivered in partnership with local organizations, including Grassroots Community Development’s Roof Repair Program, Talitha Koum Institute’s child care initiatives, and Inspiración, Inc.’s parenting and children’s classroom programs.
City officials said the ongoing use of Community Development Block Grant and HOME funds, along with continued collaboration with community partners, remains central to improving quality of life for residents.
