Texas – Governor Greg Abbott delivered the keynote address at the Texas Peace Officers’ Memorial Ceremony, held in honor of law enforcement officers who lost their lives in the line of duty. The ceremony recognized 25 officers and included the presentation of the Texas Medal of Honor to a family member of each honoree.

Abbott spoke about the sacrifice of Texas law enforcement officers and the impact of their service on families and communities across the state. He said the memorial serves as a lasting reminder of the officers who died while protecting others, emphasizing that their contributions will not be forgotten.

“The people of Texas hold you in eternal gratitude for your brave, selfless service,” Abbott said during the address. “This memorial serves as an eternal reminder of the heroes taken from us too soon. Their lives mattered, and their sacrifice will never be forgotten.”

The ceremony also highlighted the historical role of law enforcement in Texas. Abbott reflected on the legacy of officers dating back to the state’s early history, noting that modern law enforcement continues a long tradition of service and public safety dating to the era of frontier lawmen.

Officials said the recognition is intended to honor both the officers who died in the line of duty and the families who continue to carry their memory. Surviving spouses and relatives of the fallen officers attended the ceremony alongside state leaders and law enforcement representatives.

During the event, Abbott presented medals to family members in recognition of the officers’ service and sacrifice. The awards are among the highest honors given by the state to law enforcement personnel.

The Texas Peace Officers’ Memorial Ceremony is held annually to remember officers killed in the line of duty and to provide a moment of reflection for law enforcement agencies and communities across Texas.

State officials said the event underscores the ongoing commitment of Texas law enforcement and the importance of supporting officers and their families after tragedy.
