BSPD investigation into double homicide on Oriole Street leads to capital murder arrest, police say

Big Spring, TEXAS – The Big Spring Police Department reported that two men were found dead following a shooting incident on May 22, 2026, in the 1600 block of Oriole Street.

According to a media release, officers responded at approximately 11:05 p.m. after reports of shots fired. When officers arrived, they located two male victims in the front yard suffering from gunshot wounds.

The victims were identified as Willis J. Duval, 44, and Marcus D. Pena, 23. Emergency responders from the Big Spring Fire Department and Allegiance EMS attempted life-saving measures, however both were pronounced deceased at the scene.

The Big Spring Police Department, Howard County Sheriff’s Office, and Texas Department of Public Safety Texas Rangers assisted with the investigation. Authorities said investigators and detectives conducted interviews and pursued leads throughout the early stages of the case.

Following the investigation, officials determined probable cause existed for a capital murder charge. A warrant was obtained for 22-year-old Ruben A. Gonzales, who was later arrested on May 23, 2026, in the 1600 block of Canary Street and booked into the Howard County Detention Center.

Officials said the investigation remains ongoing and no additional information is available at this time.
