Texas – Greg Abbott publicly praised the nomination of Angela Colmenero to serve as a federal judge for the United States District Court for the Southern District of Texas following an announcement by Donald Trump.
In a statement shared on social media, Abbott described Colmenero as a “brilliant lawyer” and said she would make an “exemplary federal judge.” He also thanked Trump for the nomination, calling her a strong defender of the Constitution and the rule of law during her service in Texas government.
Trump announced the nomination on social media, highlighting Colmenero’s role as Deputy Chief of Staff to Abbott and her previous work as the governor’s Principal Deputy General Counsel.
He also referenced her experience in the Texas Attorney General’s Office and her legal background before joining the governor’s administration.
According to Trump, Colmenero previously served as an attorney and senior official in the Attorney General’s Office before moving into leadership roles within the governor’s office.

Trump also pointed to her educational background, noting that she graduated from the University of Notre Dame Law School and the University of Texas at Austin. He said she clerked for federal Judge A. Joe Fish and stated that she was well prepared to serve Texans on the federal bench.
The nomination places Colmenero in line for a judgeship on the United States District Court for the Southern District of Texas, pending the federal confirmation process.
