Texas – Texas Sen. Ted Cruz criticized the Democratic Socialists of America after reports revealed the organization is preparing a new platform that includes major proposed changes to the structure and powers of the federal government.

“These people are nuts,” Cruz wrote on X in response to a report from Fox News about the proposals.

According to Fox News, the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) is preparing a platform that calls for significant changes to the federal government, including eliminating the U.S. Senate, changing the relationship between Congress, the presidency, and the Supreme Court, granting broad immigration relief, and reducing the role of the Department of War.

The proposals have drawn criticism from conservative lawmakers, including Cruz, who argued they represent a radical shift in how the federal government operates.

The DSA, one of the largest socialist organizations in the United States, has grown in influence in recent years as candidates supported by the organization have gained attention in Democratic primaries and local elections. The group has advocated for policies involving economic reform, labor rights, healthcare, housing, and changes to government institutions.

Fox News reported that the proposed platform includes a call to eliminate the Senate, a move that would require a constitutional amendment and would dramatically alter the balance of power between states and the federal government. The Senate was created by the Constitution as a chamber where each state receives equal representation, regardless of population.

The reported platform also calls for changing the relationship between the branches of government, including making the presidency and Supreme Court subordinate to Congress. Supporters of the proposal argue it would increase democratic accountability, while critics say it would undermine the constitutional system of checks and balances.

Another proposal highlighted in the report involves granting amnesty to undocumented immigrants. Immigration policy has been one of the most divisive issues in American politics, with Democrats and Republicans often disagreeing over enforcement, legal status, and border security.

The report also mentioned proposals involving the Department of War, referring to a restructuring or defunding effort related to the nation’s military and defense structure. Details about how such changes would be implemented were not immediately clear.

Cruz has frequently criticized policies supported by progressive and socialist groups, arguing that they represent a threat to traditional American institutions and conservative values. His latest comments come as debates continue over the influence of the Democratic Socialists of America within the broader Democratic Party.

Supporters of the DSA have argued that the organization represents a movement focused on expanding economic opportunity and increasing public accountability. The group has pushed for policies it says would benefit working-class Americans and reduce corporate influence in government.

The controversy surrounding the proposed platform comes as Democratic socialist candidates have gained increased attention nationwide. Several candidates backed by or associated with the movement have won high-profile elections, leading to broader discussions about the direction of the Democratic Party.

Cruz and other Republican leaders have used those developments to argue that the Democratic Party is moving further toward progressive policies. Democrats and DSA supporters, however, have argued that the movement represents a growing demand for changes to government and economic systems.

The proposed platform is expected to fuel additional debate as political leaders from both parties continue discussing the future direction of federal policy and the role of socialist ideas in American politics.
