Texas – Sen. Ted Cruz used a recent episode of his podcast Verdict to defend federal tax policy and challenge Democratic messaging about recent tax legislation, arguing that critics have mischaracterized the impact of tax cuts on American households.

In a post promoting the episode, Cruz wrote that Democrats and media outlets had “claimed tax cuts were only for the rich,” adding, “They lied.” He said the legislation he discussed, which he referred to as the “Working Families Tax Cut,” was designed as a targeted tax break aimed at working-class Americans rather than wealthy households.

Cruz encouraged listeners to “cut through the noise and get the facts” by tuning into the latest installment of his podcast, where he and co-host Ben Ferguson discuss economic policy and political narratives surrounding taxation.

The episode is part of Verdict with Ted Cruz, a semiweekly political podcast in which the Texas senator offers commentary on current events, legislative developments, and partisan debates in Washington. The show is distributed through iHeartMedia and frequently focuses on Republican policy positions and critiques of Democratic proposals.

Cruz’s remarks come amid ongoing national debate over tax policy, with Republicans arguing that recent tax measures provide broad relief to working families and Democrats contending that benefits are disproportionately concentrated among higher-income earners.

Supporters of the legislation cited by Cruz have argued that provisions such as expanded deductions and targeted credits are intended to ease financial pressure on middle- and lower-income households. Critics, however, have pointed to independent analyses of similar tax packages suggesting that higher-income earners often receive a larger share of overall benefits, particularly through structural changes to the tax code.

The senator has repeatedly used his podcast platform to push back against Democratic messaging on fiscal policy, framing his arguments around economic growth, tax relief, and household-level financial impact.

The episode continues Cruz’s broader messaging strategy of using media platforms outside of traditional Senate communication channels to directly address voters and shape public perception of legislative debates.

As the discussion over tax policy continues in Washington, both parties are expected to keep highlighting competing interpretations of how recent and proposed tax changes affect American workers, families, and the broader economy.
