Texas – “President Trump is working every day to lower costs, fight for free and fair elections, secure the border, and protect the American people,” Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton said as he voiced support for the president’s election security message and renewed his call for passage of the SAVE America Act.

Paxton made the comments after President Donald Trump addressed the nation on election security, with the White House saying that all Americans should support efforts to maintain secure, fair and honest elections regardless of political affiliation.

“Every American, whether Republican, Democrat, Independent, or otherwise, should be able to agree that we deserve the most secure, honest, and fair election system anywhere in the world,” the White House said in a statement shared by Paxton. “Secure elections should not be a partisan issue that divides Americans.”

Following the statement, Paxton said he would continue supporting Trump’s efforts to strengthen election laws, including the SAVE America Act, a Republican-backed proposal that would require proof of U.S. citizenship when registering to vote in federal elections.

“I will continue to stand with him in passing the Save America Act, securing our elections, and delivering results for the people of Texas every single day,” Paxton wrote.

Paxton also criticized Democratic Texas Senate candidate James Talarico, accusing him of opposing voter identification requirements and supporting policies that he said would hurt working families.

“Talarico opposes voter ID, wants to raise taxes on working families, and wants to destroy the American Dream. He is too radical for Texas,” Paxton said.

The comments came as election security and voting laws remained major political issues nationwide. Trump has repeatedly called for stronger election safeguards, while Republican lawmakers have pushed for additional requirements they say would increase confidence in elections.

The SAVE America Act has become a central part of the debate. Supporters argue that requiring citizenship verification would protect elections and ensure only eligible voters participate in federal contests. Opponents, including many Democrats and voting rights groups, argue that existing laws already prohibit noncitizens from voting in federal elections and warn that additional requirements could create barriers for eligible voters, per reports.

The White House’s statement followed Trump’s remarks on election integrity, where he emphasized the importance of protecting the voting process and ensuring Americans have confidence in election outcomes.

Texas has already implemented voter identification requirements, including rules requiring voters to provide approved identification when casting ballots in person. State officials have pointed to those requirements as part of broader efforts to maintain election security.

Paxton has made election-related issues a major focus during his time as Texas attorney general. His office has participated in legal challenges involving election rules and voting procedures, often arguing that stronger safeguards are needed to protect the integrity of elections.

The remarks also come as Paxton continues to position himself as a strong supporter of Trump’s agenda and as Texas Democrats and Republicans prepare for future political battles. The attorney general has frequently criticized Democratic policies on issues including elections, immigration and taxes.

Talarico, a Democratic state representative and candidate for the U.S. Senate, has pushed back against Republican claims about his positions, arguing that his policies are focused on economic issues and protecting Texans.

The debate over election security is expected to remain a major issue in Texas and across the country, with both parties continuing to disagree over how best to balance election integrity measures with voter access. Paxton said he would continue supporting efforts to pass the SAVE America Act and strengthen election laws as part of what he described as protecting free and fair elections.
