Waco High School Student Accused of Indecency with Special Needs Peer

Waco, TX – A 17-year-old student at Waco High School has been charged with engaging in inappropriate sexual conduct with a 14-year-old special needs student, according to an arrest affidavit filed by local authorities. Michael Demetrio Gonzalez, who is facing charges of knowingly and intentionally engaging in sexual contact with a child under the age of 17, was arrested following an investigation into the incident. The alleged encounter occurred on the morning of November 7, 2022, at approximately 8:50 a.m.

Officers from the Waco Independent School District Police Department responded to the high school after receiving reports that Gonzalez had asked the 14-year-old special education student to enter the boys’ restroom with him. According to the affidavit, once inside the restroom, Gonzalez instructed the victim to pull down his pants and expose himself. The victim, however, reportedly resisted and immediately pulled his pants back up to prevent any further contact. The child later disclosed the incident to his mother, who subsequently contacted authorities. The victim was interviewed at the Children’s Advocacy Center in Waco on November 14, 2022, where he provided details about the encounter. Investigators have since proceeded with the case, and Gonzalez was arrested and taken into custody.

Gonzalez is currently being held at the McLennan County Jail on a $5,000 bond. He faces serious charges related to indecency with a child, which could lead to significant legal consequences if convicted. This case has raised concerns about the safety of vulnerable students within the school system, particularly those with special needs. While the investigation continues, authorities have emphasized the importance of safeguarding all students from potential harm and providing support for those affected by such incidents.

At this time, Waco High School officials have not publicly commented on the case, as it remains under investigation. School districts across the country are regularly reminded of the need for vigilance and comprehensive safety protocols to prevent incidents of this nature from occurring on school grounds.

The case highlights the crucial role of education professionals, law enforcement, and community support systems in responding to and addressing allegations of abuse or misconduct involving minors.
