Waco, TX — Waco Independent School District has announced the appointment of Sherry Smith as its new chief financial officer, finalizing a leadership transition within the district’s administrative team.
According to district information, Smith previously served in an acting capacity after the retirement of the former CFO in December 2025 before being officially named to the permanent position in early May 2026. She has worked with Waco ISD for more than two decades in various finance-related roles, including executive director of finance.
District officials said Smith brings extensive experience in school district budgeting, accounting, payroll operations, purchasing, and financial reporting. Her responsibilities have included overseeing audits, managing district investments, and supervising multiple finance-related departments.
Waco ISD leadership described her appointment as part of ongoing efforts to maintain financial stability and operational efficiency across the district. Superintendent Dr. Tiffany Spicer said Smith’s long tenure and familiarity with district operations position her to guide financial planning moving forward.
Prior to her promotion, Smith held leadership roles in school finance in other Texas districts, where she worked on procurement systems and large-scale budgeting operations.
District records confirm the appointment was formally announced on May 1, 2026, and has been reflected across Waco ISD’s administrative leadership listings.
Officials said the district will continue focusing on long-term financial planning as it supports academic programs and operational needs across campuses.
